What Happens When a Lover Seeks Revenge? Find Out During a Dramatic Performance
Founded in 2009, Opera Orlando produces entertaining and thought-provoking theatrical works of the highest artistic quality. Opera Orlando puts a spin on the classics in the premiere pairing of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Igor Stravinsky’s Pulcinella. Experience a premiere pairing where tragedy, comedy, and dance combine, courtesy of Ruggero Leoncavallo and Igor Stravinsky.
Both works garner inspiration from Italy’s commedia dell’arte tradition, and this production honors that tradition as seen in the vaudeville circuit of the 1930s. Pagliacci features not only some of opera’s greatest melodies but also a gripping story in the Italian verismo tradition of the early 20th century. Here, life on stage intersects all too closely with life offstage, culminating in a tragic lover’s revenge.
Soprano Suzanne Kantorski makes her Opera Orlando Mainstage debut as the betraying Nedda in Pagliacci and sings the female role in Pulcinella. Both works are conducted by Clinton Smith and directed by Octavio Cardenas, who are also making their Opera Orlando debuts, with choreography and dance compliments of Phantasmagoria.
